Are Blue Chips the Underdogs in M-commerce?
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011Who is best positioned to take advantage of the growth of the mobile web? In 2010 smartphone purchases increased by more than 70 per cent and research shows that consumer confidence in the mobile web is growing quickly. M-commerce is a burgeoning but largely untapped market and those who make headway into it now will be the big winners when it really takes off.
Industry experts gathered at a Round Table event at the head offices of UKFast – a hosting firm to 4,000 SMEs and blue-chip clients – to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by the emerging platform.
UKFast Mobile Commerce Round Table

- Which industries are leading the way through m-Commerce?
- Will the future mean more companies will be using in-house built software innovations or source elsewhere?
- Should all businesses be placing the handheld internet on its priority list?
If anyone can get past the fact they hired Declan Donnelly to dub my voiceover, you can check out the finished videos below. Run, as they say, VT…

Three indicators that your brand is ready to go mobile
Thursday, November 11th, 2010Here are three indicators that suggest you should begin to develop a mobile strategy to launch your mobile presence. Consider if any of these scenarios apply to your brand:
1. You’ve been looking at the analytics for your website and notice your web traffic is increasingly coming from smart phones and mobile devices.
What this indicates: You could be missing opportunities to give your audience a rich mobile web experience. Mobile users visit a huge variety of websites from their mobile phone, so having a functional mobile site makes your brand highly accessible—something critical for marketers in this digital era. Of course, you’ll want to understand your audience base (i.e., High smartphone usage? Feature phone users?) and strive for a mobile web interface that will function seamlessly on a broad range of handsets.
New study shows the Mobile Web will rule by 2015
Thursday, August 19th, 2010In a dense, 87-page report, Morgan Stanley analysts have charted the most important online trends and predicted the future of the Internet. In addition to forecasting more online shopping and showing the geographical distribution of Internet users, the study also shows a dramatic shift toward mobile web use.
Including devices such as the Kindle, the iPhone and other smartphones, web-enabled tablets, GPS systems, video games and wireless home appliances, the growth of the mobile web has been exponential — and we’re still just at the beginning of this cycle. Morgan Stanley’s analysts believe that, based on the current rate of change and adoption, the mobile web will be bigger than desktop Internet use by 2015.
The mobile journey
Monday, July 26th, 2010The mobile phone has transformed itself over the last couple of years into an ever-evolving portable computing device, which is far more functionally versatile than the traditional PC. This has had enormous consequences for the technology industry. Google said at Mobile World Congress this year that its strategy is now ‘mobile-first’. Microsoft is trying to play catch-up with its mobile operating system, and many other traditional technology stalwarts are also trying to get a slice of the pie.
The travel industry is no different. In the past, technological innovation in travel has focused heavily on the booking experience, and particularly the online booking experience. Mobile services for the travel industry is a market ripe for innovation, and will play the starring role in the creation of what we call the ‘responsive journey’. Today, this means the travel industry is beginning to interact with the traveller via their mobile phone at any point during the entire trip, as opposed to just at key touchpoints. But how is this innovation manifesting itself and where will we see new services and opportunities for revenue generation?
The top ten reasons your site should go mobile
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010The mobile web is a fascinating space that is still in its infancy. If the current capabilities of mobile devices are a sign of things to come, we can only imagine what will be possible five years from now.
Here are 10 reasons I think that anyone with an online presence should establish a mobile presence separate for their website…
The 2012 inbox: SMS may be better
Tuesday, July 20th, 2010Everyone has a smartphone these days and marketers are wondering… should I do e-mail campaigns or SMS text messaging marketing to my mobile audience?
I came across an interesting article by Derek Harding from ClickZ about mobile inboxes saying usage and progress will be slower than the industry thinks. His predication is that SMS is and will be the preferred delivery vehicle for mobile-specific, time and location sensitive communications.
